The Houston Academy Scholars Bowl team has had an incredibly successful season, culminating in a state championship win at the 2023 Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) Scholars Bowl competition. In a hard-fought final match against rival Tuscaloosa Academy, the Houston Academy team prevailed in a nail-biting finish to be crowned state champions.

The Houston Academy Scholars Bowl program has seen tremendous growth in recent years under the leadership of coach Mr. Smith. “We’ve worked really hard as a team to expand our knowledge across various subject areas,” said team captain John Doe. “Coach Smith has done an amazing job preparing us and instilling a competitive spirit.” This season alone, the team answered over 90% of questions correctly, dominating their regional competition to qualify for the state finals.

At the state championship, Houston Academy battled through an intense double-elimination bracket. They faced tough challenges from private schools around Alabama but came out on top with their encyclopedic knowledge. In the final showdown against Tuscaloosa Academy, the score was tight throughout. With only one question remaining, Houston Academy trailed by 5 points. But their correct final response clinched the victory and the state title.

The triumph capped off an incredible run for the Houston Academy Scholars Bowl team. “I’m so proud of these students and what they’ve accomplished,” said Principal Michael Brown. “They are tremendous representatives of our school’s academic excellence and competitive spirit.” As the team celebrates their well-earned championship, the future looks bright for continued success of the Houston Academy Scholars Bowl program. Their state title win has inspired the next generation of knowledgeable and competitive student scholars.
